In order to allow us to prepare for our open evening, school will close after lesson 5 at 2.30pm on Thursday 18th September. Please join us later that evening if you have a child in Y5 or 6 to see the amazing work we do here at Mosslands.

UCAS Information Evening – Thursday 18th September, 4:00–5:00pm in 602.
This will be an informative session designed to support parents with the university application process. The evening will cover:

  • An overview of UCAS and how the application system works

  • Key dates and deadlines for applications

  • Guidance on writing a strong personal statement

  • Tips on choosing courses and universities

  • Support available in school throughout the process

  • Opportunity for questions

The session aims to equip parents with the knowledge and confidence to navigate UCAS with their children successfully. Students do not need to attend this session as they will be getting plenty of support from Sixth Form staff over the coming weeks.

The Mosslands School Coffee and Catch Up

Members of the pastoral team from The Mosslands School will be at Wallasey Village Library and Community Centre on Monday 13th October from 1.30pm until 3pm and on Friday 17th October from 8.45 until 10.15am.

Please feel free to come and say hello. This is also a good opportunity for you to talk to staff about any concerns you might have.

Careers

As the academic year gets underway, we draw your attention to some upcoming events.

Year 10 will be preparing for their work experience, having had an assembly this week. Parents/carers of Y10 students have received a letter inviting them to a short meeting on Tuesday, 16th September at 5pm in the school hall. Please sign up if you haven't already: https://forms.office.com/e/8j7CJPkC8c

We look forward to meeting Y10 parents and carers then.

On 29th and 30th September, Year 8 will take part in employability workshops as part of the Rise Programme with The Talent Foundry.

For parents/carers in all year groups, we hope that this presentation will provide some important information to help support your young person in their careers journey.

Library

In honour of Banned Books Week, our Book of the Week is The Giver by Lois Lowry, a fantastic dystopian classic that follows the journey of Jonus as he begins to question the community he has grown up in and finds the courage to do what is right. This book has been banned and challenged in schools and libraries in many American states since publication. However, we highly recommend this wonderful book to our students from Year 9 onwards.

Our eBooks and audiobooks service is available through the Sora app. Students simply have to download the app and login using their Google Classroom details in order to access thousands of books on their phone or tablet.

Trips

MFL are planning a trip to Paris & Disneyland in 2026 for students currently in years 9 -10. Priority will be given to pupils who have chosen a language as a GCSE option and/or who have shown an interest in languages. The 5-day trip will take place from 29/06/2026 to 03/07/2026 and the total cost of the trip will be approximately £660-£700. Places are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. If your son would like a place on this fantastic trip, he can collect a letter from Miss Owens and then pay a deposit of £150 by September 30th by MCAS, cash or cheque. If you would like any further information or have any questions, please speak to Miss Owens or any MFL teacher.

The third deposit of £70 for the Berlin trip is due on 15th September.

Parents of boys in Y7 who expressed an interest in the ski trip when it was first launched back in July, can now pay the deposit on the MCAS app. The letter was sent out again to all Y7 yesterday in case there were any parents who missed it the first time round.

Any boys who have not yet brought their passport into school for the Iceland trip should do so as soon as possible.

Y11 Exam Readiness Sessions

Miss Iliopoulos will be running English revision sessions for Y11 on the following days in AX2 15:20 to 16:00.

Monday - Literature

Wednesday - Language

Keep an eye on future newsletters for details of more sessions for Y11 as the term goes on. There will be an information evening for parents on how they can support their sons in Y11 later this term.

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for three consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
