‘Get Ahead With Science Technology Engineering and Maths’ 

On Tuesday 25th January 50 Year 9 pupils enjoyed an inspiring and fun STEM activity delivered by the Smallpeice Trust. Pupils worked in teams to create, build and test a wind turbine. The activity was a great opportunity for pupils to enhance their creativity, design and engineering skills. 

In the wind turbine project students designed and constructed a wind turbine to produce the greatest amount of electricity. There were three main elements to the project:

1. Construction of a circuit to convert turbine rotation to electricity
2. Turbine blade design and construction to maximise output 
3. Design and construction of the tower to carry the turbine. 

Subjects covered included renewable energy, wind power and electricity.

Following this successful day seven students now have the opportunity to experience a Smallpeice Trust residential at the University of Liverpool from 26th to 28th April, working with real engineers and experiencing what it is like to stay at a top university.
