Learning about the port

A group of Year 9 and 10 pupils along with Mrs Harrison a colleague from our AfriTwin partner school in Simonstown South Africa undertook a tour of the Port of Liverpool. The group learnt more about the history of the Port, which has been at the heart of the historical growth of the city, and current and future developments. Pupils learnt that this area is a strategic route carrying more than 40 million tonnes of international trade through Britain’s strongest container generating region outside London.

Pupils also learnt about up coming major investments in modern facilities to meet the demands of tomorrow’s global trade in this developing ‘Superport’ region. For example, a new Panamax container facility is being build to accommodate even bigger container vessels, which will add to the development of the local economy. (www.merseydocks.co.uk).
