A Visit to JMU
Year 8 & 9 pupils visited Liverpool John Moores University to see what a life in higher education could be like
As part of the our close partnership with local universities Year 8 and 9 pupils were able to undertake a visit to Liverpool John Moores University aimed at increasing their awareness of higher education and their aspirations for the future.
The day comprised of a visit to parts of the large city centre based campus to see first hand the facilities and scale of the university. The pupils were welcomed by Sharon Roden from the recruitment and schools liaison team who explained the purpose behind the visit and the opportunity it represented.
Throughout the day the Mosslands pupils attended, and actively participated in workshops designed and delivered by university staff. The workshops gave a taste of what it is like to be a student at a large university, through hands on, interactive sessions designed to excite and inspire the boys. Pupils also got to meet and work with a number of undergraduate student advocates, who were able to speak to the pupils about their experience at university and answer any questions.
Among the activities pupils undertook a ‘Planning your Future’ workshop, undertook a tour of student accommodation, while also visiting the Learning Resources Centre and Student Union.
Pupils comments of the trip:
‘It has given me a lot more information about university life, and helped me realise there are a lot of different courses to choose from.’ Year 9
‘It was an excellent experience and I learnt a lot, thank you.’ Year 8
