Debating Society

The Mosslands School has set up a school debating society in conjunction with The University of Liverpool and 'Debate Mate'.

‘Helping Pupils become Critical Thinkers through Debating.’

The Mosslands School in conjunction with the Debating Union at the University of Liverpool and  ‘Debate Mate’ an educational charity who support the teaching of debating skills, have set up a Debating Club in school. This is a great opportunity for pupils to develop their speaking and listening skills further. Pupils and staff attended a very engaging launch event in Liverpool in early November.

Our pupils will receive training delivered by students from the University of Liverpool, who will act as coaches and mentors for our pupils. Before the Christmas break, mentors come into school and deliver the programme of training, coaching pupils in the basics of debating and helping them to develop the hard and soft skills that debating builds.

In early 2014 competitions will begin, and training continues. The Mosslands Debate Team also will travel to other schools in Liverpool and compete in the 'Artemis Urban Debate League' after school. The winner of the league will then be invited to a finals day in London at the offices of a Corporate Law Firm. The school will also compete, in April, in the Debate Mate Cup, a knock-out competition that takes place in Manchester.

The club itself will meet in AXO every Tuesday evening at 3.10pm. For more information please speak to Mrs Roberts or Mr Taylor.
