What is Engineering Construction?

Helping young people gain a full insight into a wide range of careers and opportunities is a key aspect of the school’s careers education programme.

Helping young people gain a full insight into a wide range of careers and opportunities is a key aspect of the school’s careers education programme. Advice is available to support pupils throughout their studies at Mosslands. On Monday 13th October, we were pleased to welcome the ECITB roadshow into school, who delivered an interactive presentation to Year 10 pupils. Pupils learnt about the different careers and entry routes available including university and apprenticeship pathways, and took part in interactive quizzes to test their knowledge and understanding.

Pupils learnt that engineering construction is a specialist £16 billion a year super-business operating at the heart of some of our key industries. They include oil and gas, power generation, nuclear energy, renewable energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, food and drink, steel, glass and paper making. Such businesses operate at the cutting edge of developments in society and technology, and are engaged in some of the most important work happening in the world today. It is no exaggeration to say they could not do that work without young people with the right engineering construction skills.

From wind turbines to wave power, from high-performance bio-fuels and carbon capture technology, the benefits to individuals and society of these exciting emerging technologies are just beginning to be felt. It will be down to the next generation of engineering experts to help deliver their full potential.
