Student Achievement for the School

Zak Gifford was recently awarded “Most Outstanding Cadet” for Wallasey Fire Station, an award issued by Merseyside Fire Brigade.

Zak is a member of The Mosslands Sixth Form and is following a Public Services qualification with The Protective Services Academy.  In his spare time, he is a volunteer at Fire Cadets and is based at Wallasey Fire Station.  He has carried out this role for four years and is currently Crew Manager of the team.

The aim of the Fire Cadets is to enable young people to gain skills, knowledge and positive experiences in a fun, safe and secure environment, whilst developing life skills and inspiring young people to make positive life choices about their futures.  Activities include: Practical Firefighting Drills, Fire Safety Awareness, Promoting Community Engagement, Fundraising, First Aid Awareness, Road Safety Awareness, Water Safety Awareness and Team-building Activities.  Cadets will also work towards gaining certification and accreditation.

Zak attended the prestigious ceremony at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters in Bootle, Liverpool on Wednesday, 3rd July 2019.  He was presented with the award by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Peter Brennan.  Zak’s ambition is to eventually become a Fire Fighter within Merseyside Fire Brigade.  We are all extremely proud of his efforts and wish him the very best of luck for the future.
