The school provides a broad range of activities and events for pupils beyond the academic curriculum. For example, many pupils participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competitions. Pupils also benefit from a range of sports clubs, school trips and international visits.

Teachers have strong subject knowledge in most subjects. They explain concepts to pupils well, including in sixth-form lessons. Teachers use thoughtfully designed activities to help pupils to deepen their knowledge.

Ofsted May 2025

Expectations for pupils’ behaviour are high. Staff apply the updated behaviour policy consistently well. This is enabling the school to better support those pupils who need to improve their behaviour.

Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review (May 2025)

In addition to our most recent Ofsted inspection, In May of this year, 2025, The Mosslands School took part in a Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review – a rigorous peer-led review involving experienced senior leaders from across the country. Over three days, reviewers visited lessons, spoke with students and staff, and evaluated the quality of education and leadership.

A full copy of the report can be downloaded below.  Here are some quotations from the report;

The headteacher and his senior leadership team (SLT) lead the school with warmth and ambition in equal measure. Leaders demonstrate an understanding of the key priorities for improvement and they use external support well and challenge underperformance.

Strong values underpin the school’s aims and ethos. Students and staff demonstrate these values in the everyday life of the school through the tolerance and respect they show one another.

Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review, May 2025

Leaders provide an ambitious curriculum that is designed to give all pupils, particularly those who are disadvantaged and/or have additional needs, the knowledge and experiences they need to succeed in life. Leaders have rightly reduced the dependence of some students on support assistants (SAs) in order to help to develop more independence.

Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review, May 2025

Leaders are clear about the barriers that disadvantaged students face and the pupil premium strategy has been developed to focus on these areas. The strategy to improve students’ reading ages through the Reading Plus intervention programme is showing a positive impact with these students.
