About the course:
CTEC Sports Studies (Diploma/ Extended Certificate)
The CTEC Sports Studies course aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop coaching and sports science experience that will lead on to University ports courses or full time employment in the sports industry.
It will build on CNAT sports studies (students may be able to study sport at KS5 if they did not at KS4) skills. Students will be responsible for recording and evaluating their sports performance and others, coaching all levels of students as a PE teacher and also gaining a knowledge of anatomy and sports injury.
Diploma: The assessment structure comprises nine mandatory units and is equivalent to 2 A levels.
Extended Certificate: The assessment structure comprises three mandatory units and then a choice of two additional units and is equivalent to 1 A level.
What does this qualification cover?
The content consists of a balance between a number of key areas in Physical Education, providing pupils with options when choosing higher education courses or work based opportunities.
The programme covers the following content areas:
- Body systems (Skeletal, Muscular, Cardiovascular, Respiratory and energy systems)
- Sports coaching
- Sports organisation
- Performance Analysis in sport
- Practical skills in sport
How will it be assessed:
Unit 1: Body Systems - Written examination, 1.5 hours- 90 marks.
Unit 3: Sports organisations- Written examination, 1.5 hours- 90 marks
Unit 4: Working safely in sport- Written examination, 1.5 hours- 90 marks
All other units are assessed portfolio work including video analysis of sports performance

What is expected of you:
You will be expected to attend all lessons and complete all tasks on time. You will need to have a passion for sports and be able to cope with the pressures of a demanding course. You should be revising for the exams in your own time. Most of the coursework will be ran through Google classroom and you must keep up to date by working in class and at home. You will be expected to represent the school as a coach/teacher in the community and have a positive attitude. You will also be expected to film and edit your own performance at two sports.

Learners are most likely to succeed if they have:
• 5 GCSEs at grades 4 or above and/or
• BTEC or CNAT qualification(s) at Level 2
• Achievement in English and Mathematics at GCSE.
