Waves

While you study the Waves topic attempt at least 4 of the following home study tasks. You can collect any sheets from your teacher.

Research the definition of these words. Write the words and meanings in a table.

Transverse, longitudinal, wavelength, amplitude, oscillation, frequency, displacement, adjacent, compression, rarefaction.

Make a crossword puzzle for a friend to solve using the words and definitions from the first task.

Complete the extended writing task on Waves worksheet 1.

Draw ray diagrams – remember the rules! Use Waves worksheet 2

Calculate the frequency of the following waves using the equation F = 1/T

  1. A wave with a time period of 3 s.
  2. A wave with a time period of 0.005 s.
  3. A wave with a time period of 9.0x10-15 s.

Now try rearranging the equation to calculate the time period of the waves

What is the time period for a wave if the frequency is...

  1. 450 Hz?
  2. 19,500 Hz?
  3. 0.01 Hz?

Fill in the missing information about the electromagnetic spectrum on Waves worksheet 3

Label the diagram of the electromagnetic spectrum with the information on Waves

Autumn half term 2

Further Forces

While you study the forces topic complete at least 7 of the tasks below. You can collect any sheets from your teacher.

Use the internet to research vectors and scalars. Write a list of vectors and a list of scalars. Describe the difference between vectors and scalars.

List as many forces as you can remember. Put them under two headings- Contact Forces and Non Contact Forces.

Complete the tasks on the worksheet Forces Task sheet 1

Complete the tasks on the work sheet Forces Task Sheet 2

Use this equation to calculate the weight of the following objects on Earth. W = m x g

  1. 25kg Box
  2. 37kg table
  3. 13kg shopping bag
  4. 65kg person

Take gravity on Earth to be 10N/kg

Find out the size of gravity on Jupiter and Pluto. Calculate the weight of the above objects if they were on Jupiter and Pluto.

Calculate the resultant force acting in each situation on these worksheets.
