Throughout the years 7 and 8 you will build on the skills that you have learnt at primary school.

You will learn the names of all the tools and how to use then safely.  The aim is to give you an understanding of how to make a product.

Designers have set methods of planning and designing products. You will learn how to understand what a design brief is asking you to do.

You will learn to plan a practical activity from the design stage to the making of it.

The quality of the finish on a product is very important and influences the people that buy it. You will learn how to sand clean and apply a finish to your practical work and proudly take it home.

Designers are good at communicating to others. You will learn this skill by sketching and writing about your design.

Designers’ also do lots of research as a starting point. You will look at existing products and create surveys and questionnaires.

Products are made to a specification. You will learn how to break down a specification into small statement and use this to help you design to what the customer wants.

Evaluation gives you the opportunity to reflect on what you have made or designed. You will be given the opportunity to ask others people what they think of your product.
