Type & Frequency of Feedback

Key Stage 3
  • Students complete ‘do now’ retrieval practice activities at the start of every lesson which are self-assessed in red pen.
  • Teacher uses live marking and provides verbal feedback within lessons on what is done well and what requires improvement with regards to knowledge as well as presentation.
  • There is planned reflection time during each lesson when students will add improvements to their work and even if full marks are achieved, students are encouraged to further elevate their work with any additional content they didn’t put themselves.
  • Students complete end of topic assessments three times throughout the year. These assessments are carefully designed to assess knowledge of the topic as well as higher level skills such as explaining and evaluation.
  • End of topic assessments are teacher marked with individual students receiving their overall score and time for whole class feedback is planned into the scheme of learning with students elevating their work and complete Next Steps tasks.
Key Stage 4
  • Students complete ‘do now’ retrieval practice activities at the start of every lesson which are self-assessed in red pen.
  • Teacher uses live marking and provides verbal feedback within lessons on what is done well and what requires improvement with regards to knowledge as well as presentation.
  • Students complete past paper questions at the end of each subtopic during lesson time. These questions are marked by the teacher and returned to students when the exam mark scheme is shared and students reflect on their work in depth, adding notes in purple pen from the mark scheme.
  • Students complete specially designed assessments at the end of each topic comprised of past exam-style questions only. These are marked by the teacher and returned to the student with their score and clear indications of which question-styles they are strong in and which they need to improve. There is planned time for students to then reflect on each question in purple pen according to the mark schemes specific for each question.
  • Students complete mock examinations during the school-wide organised mock schedules and the same process is followed above with the exception being full-format past papers are used.
