Year 10

This curriculum map provides an overview of the languages journey students will experience throughout the academic year. It outlines the sequence of linguistic topics, cultural themes, and communicative contexts alongside key assessment points designed to monitor and support student progress. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively, with each unit providing the foundation for future learning, ensuring all students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills appropriate to their age and stage.

Mi gente, mi mundo 

Vocabulary: Describing family, friends and relationships, physical appearance and personality, free time activities, online influencers, celebrations and festivals. 

Grammar: Possessive adjectives, present continuous, ser and estar, reflexive verbs, preterite tense, direct and indirect object pronouns. 

Phonics: [ch], [r], [rr], [v/b], [j/ge/gi]. 

Culture: Family structures and traditions in the Spanish-speaking world. 

Skills: Describing people and photos, comparing relationships, identifying tenses through time expressions.

Autumn 2

¡Diviértete! 

Vocabulary: Describing personality and appearance, sports and hobbies, life online, arranging to go out, free time activities, giving opinions, weekend plans, and past events. 

Grammar: Adjective agreement, present tense (regular, irregular and stem-changing), near future tense, preterite tense, opinion verbs. 

Phonics: Vowels (a, e, i, o, u). 

Culture: Spanish-speaking countries and famous sports personalities. 

Skills: Giving opinions with reasons, sequencing events, describing photos, narrating events.
Assessed speaking: Role play
Spring 1 & 2

Viajes 

Vocabulary: Holiday destinations, travel plans, transport, holiday activities, describing accommodation, weather, local food, festivals and special events. 

Grammar: Me gusta(n) / me gustaría + infinitive, se puede + infinitive, comparatives, preterite tense, imperfect tense, using three time frames, si + present + future. 

Phonics: [que], [qui], [j], [ge/gi]. 

Culture: Andalucía, famous festivals (Las Fallas, Tomatina) and regional dishes. 

Skills: Describing photos, narrating holidays, expressing preferences and opinions in different time frames
Extended Writing
Summer 1 & 2 

Mi estilo de vida 

Vocabulary: Daily routines, healthy and unhealthy habits, typical foods and meals, describing recipes, giving advice for well-being. 

Grammar: Reflexive verbs, tener + noun expressions, indefinite adjectives (mucho/poco), adjectives of nationality, future simple tense. 

Phonics: [ca, co, cu], [cu] + vowel, [ch], [r], [rr]. 

Culture: Eating habits and traditional dishes in Spain and Latin America. 

Skills: Describing routines and habits, giving advice and opinions, using different time frames and sequencers.
