Curriculum Map
This curriculum map provides an overview of the art and design journey students will experience throughout the academic year. It outlines the sequence of artistic styles, techniques, and influential artists alongside key assessment points designed to monitor and support student progress. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively, with each unit providing the foundation for future learning, ensuring all students develop creative expression, technical skills, and critical appreciation appropriate to their age and stage.

Personal Investigation: Organic
- Artist section and artists research
- Bacteria samples using glue and brusho materials
- Flower painting, using the techniques of bleeding and black ink over the top
- Mark-making booklet from previous knowledge taught in year 7, 8, and 9
- Fruit drawings on a larger scale using a material of the students choice
- Fruit 3 can be completed in lesson or homework
- Skull drawings using a range of pencils / human figure that is a consecutive line drawing
- Wool ribcage using an image and textured wool
- Bird skulls using the bleeding technique with a black pen over the top for mark-making
- Leaf drawings, stippling technique taught in skills project
- Design four final ideas

Externally Set Assignment:
- Pupils get given an exam booklet and they choose a question; they then research this question or theme.
- Create 3 research pages, including a mind map, a mood board and thumbnail observational drawings.
- Take their own pictures of this theme for primary resources.
- Draw observational drawings from own photographs using a variety of media.
- Look at artists and images with evaluations/ annotation.
- Study a minimum of 3 artists, recreating their own interpretation of their work and using their photographs to recreate them in the style of the artist.
- Design final outcomes based on their research with annotation.
- Refine and develop these designs, and using media and materials to recreate design work to know which material they want to use in their final outcome.
- Create the final outcome in exam conditions.
