KS3 Rationale
A high-quality Personal, Health, Social & Economic Education (PSHE) education ensures all students:
- Addresses pupils' current experiences and their preparation for their future
- Provides a spiral curriculum to develop knowledge, skills and attributes, where prior learning is revisited, reinforced and extended year on year
- Reflects the universal needs of all children and young people, as well as the specific needs of the pupils in our school and community
PSHE has 3 key concepts:
- Health and well-being: Self-concept, healthy lifestyles, drugs, alcohol and tobacco, managing risk and personal safety, puberty and sexual health.
- Relationships: Positive relationships, relationship values, forming and maintaining respectful relationships, consent, contraception and parenthood, bullying, abuse and discrimination, social influences.
- Living in the wider world: Learning skills, choices and pathways, work and career, employment rights and responsibilities, financial choices, media literacy and digital resilience.
Teamwork | We understand the value of working together to make a positive contribution in each lesson. We listen to, and learn from, the experience of others. |
Respect | We explore a variety of social and relationship issues to develop our self-respect and respect for others. We respect everyone's right to consent. |
Ambition | We recognise and develop our own skills and qualities and use this knowledge to explore career opportunities for us in the labour market. |
Community | We explore our diverse community and learn to recognise and challenge discrimination. We develop the skills of allyship. |
Knowledge | We develop basic knowledge to support us in our life path. We learn where to find support and guidance now, and throughout our lives. |
