Disciplinary Literacy

  • Model precise use of PE-specific terminology when describing movement patterns, tactics, and health-related concepts
  • Students learn to analyse movement quality, game strategies, and performance using appropriate technical vocabulary
  • Integration of literacy through reading and interpreting training programs, match analysis, and written reflections on performances
  • Development of subject-specific vocabulary related to different sports, physical activities, and health contexts
  • Use of clear technical language when discussing rules, strategies, and tactics across different sporting contexts

Targeted Vocabulary Instruction

  • Key terminology introduced systematically for each activity/sport and revisited regularly
  • Three forms of PE knowledge vocabulary explicitly taught:
    • Motor competence terminology (e.g., fundamental movement skills, techniques)
    • Rules, strategies and tactics vocabulary
    • Healthy participation terminology
