Inclusive Attendance
Why Good Attendance is Important
At The Mosslands School, we believe education is about more than just academic achievement — it’s about belonging, wellbeing and future opportunity.
Being in school regularly helps students:
-
Connect with teachers and peers, building strong relationships and emotional confidence.
-
Access a full, engaging curriculum that prepares them for life beyond school.
-
Develop routines, resilience and life skills that support lifelong success.
-
Maintain positive wellbeing, confidence, and a sense of belonging in our school community.
Good attendance helps every child thrive — socially, emotionally and academically. By working together as a community, we can help every student succeed. National guidance highlights the importance of strong relationships and partnership between schools and families to support regular attendance.
Our Partnership with Inclusive Attendance
To strengthen how we support pupils and families, we are proud to be working in partnership with Inclusive Attendance, the leading organisation dedicated to transforming attendance culture in schools.
Inclusive Attendance promotes an inclusive, child-centred approach to attendance — recognising that attendance is about being seen, supported and connected, not only about registers and percentages.
What This Means for Our School
-
Create a welcoming, inclusive environment where every young person feels safe, valued and supported.
-
Ensure attendance is seen as a shared responsibility between school, families and the wider community.
-
Enhance understanding of the challenges some pupils face, including barriers such as wellbeing, health or social needs.
-
Build a culture of trust and partnership — encouraging open communication and working collaboratively with families.
This approach reflects our core belief that school should be a place where children want to be and feel supported to attend every day.
A Shared Responsibility
We know that the best outcomes for children happen when school and home work together.
That’s why we encourage parents, carers and guardians to:
-
Talk positively about school attendance with your child.
-
Let us know early if there are issues that make attending difficult.
-
Work with us as partners to understand barriers and find supportive solutions.
Attendance isn’t just about being present — it’s about engagement, connection and learning together.
How We Support Families
We offer a range of supportive, inclusive strategies to make school a place where students feel:
-
Seen and understood
-
Connected with teachers and peers
-
Encouraged to learn and grow every day
Our approach is informed by the best available practice and built around a culture of empathy, positivity and shared effort.
