This curriculum map provides an overview of the drama journey students will experience throughout the academic year. It outlines the sequence of theatrical styles, performance techniques, and dramatic texts alongside key assessment points designed to monitor and support student progress. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively, with each unit providing the foundation for future learning, ensuring all students develop performance confidence, creative expression, and critical analysis appropriate to their age and stage. Continuation of developing freeze frame core skill.

3 The Drama Toolkit 3
Introduction to stimulus and thoughts aloud technique.
Lowry painting stimulus.
Thoughts aloud success criteria introduced.
4 The Drama Toolkit 4
Pupils consolidate skills of freeze frames and thoughts aloud in a performance piece.
Early Assessment lesson
Pupils to demonstrate their ability to combine the use of freeze frames (with transitions and mime) and thoughts aloud in a showcase performance.
Success criteria provided.
5 The Drama Toolkit 5
Introduction to conscience alley technique; linked to previous work on thoughts aloud.
Conscience alley success criteria introduced.
6 The Drama Toolkit 6
Continuation of conscience alley skills focus. Development to include a 4th actor to embed the technique in a role play scene.

Pupils consolidate skills of role play, conscience alley and thought aloud.
Assessment lesson
Pupils to demonstrate their ability to combine the use of role play, thoughts aloud and conscience alley in a showcase performance.

The Identification Lesson 1:
Poem – using Drama skills and techniques to explore stimulus material.

Stimulus introduced. Pupils explore backstory using freeze frames and thoughts aloud.

Thoughts aloud success criteria.
9 The Identification Lesson 2:
Crimewatch reconstruction which embeds the pupils use of freeze frames, transitions and thoughts aloud.
Success criteria for the combination of skills specific to this lesson task.
10 The Identification Lesson 3:
Police interviews developing the technique of thoughts aloud and conscience alley.
Conscience alley success criteria.
11 The Identification Lesson 4 – Final Assessment performance:
Exploring character guilt using thoughts aloud and conscience alley technique.
End of Year 7 assessment lesson
Pupils to demonstrate their ability to combine the use of role play, thoughts aloud and conscience alley in a showcase performance.
 
12 Lesson 12 is a ‘cushion’ lesson which allows room for lessons potentially missed due to PSHE / INSET days etc. This allows ensures that all pupils complete the final assessment of rotation.
