Curriculum Map

This curriculum map provides an overview of the drama journey students will experience throughout the academic year. It outlines the sequence of theatrical styles, performance techniques, and dramatic texts alongside key assessment points designed to monitor and support student progress. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively, with each unit providing the foundation for future learning, ensuring all students develop performance confidence, creative expression, and critical analysis appropriate to their age and stage.

Upskilling and ‘becoming a Btec Tech Drama Pupil

Skills Workshops linked to range of stimulus – becoming a Btec pupil. 
Each skill performance is filmed and reviewed using success criteria and mini whiteboards.

Pushing the boundaries of the core techniques:

  • Role play
  • Cross cutting
  • Narrative structures
  • Development of character

Puppetry workshops:

  • Portfolio scrapbooks notes on theatre style
  • Recording of groups exploration work
  • Peer / self-assessments using mini whiteboards

Spring 1 Component 2 preparation – Page to Stage 
‘The Interrogation’ scripted stimulus

Pupils are assessed on mini-scripted performance pieces. These are filmed and the pupils complete peer and self-evaluations.

Pupil performance skills focus to develop characterisation:

  • Gestures

  • Interpretation of language and subtext

Spring 2 Component 2 preparation – Page to Stage 
‘Zero for the Young Dudes’

Pupils are assessed on mini-scripted performance pieces. These are filmed and the pupils complete peer and self-evaluations.

Pupils are also assessed on their devising skills, using the play text as a stimulus and developing plot / character

Pupils reflect on their application of skills and techniques and complete a written evaluation.

Summer 1 Theatre style focus: Brecht and Verbatim theatre
‘Monsters’ play text

Pupils evidence their understanding of the 10 core Brechtian elements in mini showcase performance work each 1 / 2 lessons

  • Verbal peer assessment
  • Use of success criteria
  • Developing performance work filmed and reviewed using mini whiteboards.

Pupils select performance material from an extract pack creating a 10-15 minute Brechtian performance of Monsters.

  • White board evaluations using success criteria
  • Written evaluation focusing on their application of Brechtian techniques and skills developed.
Summer 2 Theatre style focus: Stanislavski and naturalism

Performance of extract showcasing naturalistic performance style

  • Recording of performance
  • Peer feedback
  • Written reflection on process in comparison to Brechtian approach and performance style.
  • Portfolio tasks: Pupil initial response and structure plan
