In Design and Technology, students develop the ability to think creatively, and apply knowledge in unfamiliar situations in order to become better decision makers and problem solvers.
Alongside this they will develop an appreciation of good design, empathy for others, and the ability to make value judgements as socially conscious consumers. 

A high-quality Design and Technology education ensures all students: 

• Are confident and responsible creatives who can work independently and in teams
• Have an up-to-date knowledge of the core engineering, design and nutritional concepts
• Have self management skills and can follow a project from it's inception through to realisation and testing
• Are competent makers who have experience with, and honed, a range of practical skills.

Key concepts of Design and Technology are:

• Designing - identifying a range of techniques to support the creative process - promoting a variety of approaches to avoid stereotypical responses. 
• Making familiarisation with a range of specialist equipment - focussing on health, safety, and quality issues.
• Evaluating - develop the mindset and vocabulary to be able to critically evaluate oneself and the work of others. 
• Technical Knowledge - with a particular focus on material science, mechanisms, electronics, CAD/CAM and systems control
• Food and Nutrition - practical experience of a range of savoury and sweet dishes; studying ideas such as nutrition and health, hygiene, use of equipment, costing, sequencing, ingredients and seasonality.
